The Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has a new home, made possible by a generous gift from the people and State of Kuwait.

A $25 million donation was made in 2006 to the American National Red Cross to help improve infrastructure along the Gulf Coast and in high-risk areas. This is the single largest donation in the history of the national organization. The Red Cross chapters in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Mobile and Tallahassee will receive new buildings to better our response to disasters and services to the communities we serve.

"While the donation will cover costs of the new building, it’s important to remember that it’s just an empty building,” said Patrick Mockler, American Red Cross Board Chair. “We will still need the voluntary resources and financial contributions to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to area emergencies and disasters.”

The new headquarters will feature a Disaster Operations Center and new training classrooms for more individuals to become certified in first aid and CPR skills.

Event sponsored in part by Amedysis.
